Years 3-8

Middle & Main School

The Prep School is staffed with exemplary, passionate subject specialist teachers, who ensure that every child in our care receives the very best educational experience possible.

Building on the solid foundations developed in Pre-Prep, pupils enter the Prep School in Year 3 (age 7-8 years) and spend two years in what is known as the 'Middle School' before joining the ‘Main School’ in Year 5. Prep is housed in a picturesque Victorian building which has been modernised, extended and considerably updated to provide state of the art facilities and resources.

When the children join the Prep School, they are assigned to a House during our Harry Potter Themed ‘Sorting Hat Ceremony’, which has fast become a ‘coming of age’ tradition at St Neot’s. The children participate in termly House events such as the triathlon and inter-house competitions which link to the academic as well as the co-curricular subjects. Our House system ensures the children feel part of a community and encompasses our family values.

Pupils use the transferable ‘St Neot’s’ skills of leadership, independence, communication, collaboration, reviewing and improving in all aspects of the curriculum. In Year 3 and 4 the children are taught by subject specialists for science, music, art, languages, P.E and games while remaining form based for other subjects. In Year 5 our pupils progress to 'Main School' where they are taught by subject specialists in all areas. From Year 5, pupils are introduced to prep (homework) to learn the important skill of independent study. Our small class sizes allow us to tailor our lessons to the pupil’s needs which enables the children to fulfill their potential. Our 70 acre outdoor classroom hosts an abundance of learning opportunities. Children participate in termly theme days in the Prep school which are a real celebration of the pupils learning across the term. Our Theme Days are topic based and enable the children to form cross-curricular links.
